Description

We propose a neutron-γ1−γ2 triple-coincidence detector system (currently under construction) to track gamma transitions leading to p-nuclei production following neutron emission in (γ, n) reactions. The detector employs 26 ³He counters embedded in a polyethylene moderator for neutron detection, while gamma rays are detected using a combination of four high-purity germanium detectors and 8 LaBr₃(Ce) detectors. This detector system, referred to as the p-process chaser detector, aims to investigate the mediating states in ¹⁸⁰Ta that facilitate thermalization between the isomeric and ground states, thereby studying nucleosynthesis mechanisms in the p-process.
