Description

We compute the time evolution of the quarkonium density matrix in the background glasma field, the primordial state of matter in relativistic heavy-ion collisions, and show how the color of the quarkonium state is randomized. This color randomization is of particular interest because it drives the quarkonium out of its color-singlet state, leading to dissociation. The resulting suppression of the quarkonium yield would serve as a promising experimental signal of the glasma, as proposed by an earlier study [1]. We analyze the time scale and magnitude of the transition from the color-singlet state to unbound color-octet states in the glasma environment.
