Description
The Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD) is a flagship experiment at the Nuclotron-based Ion Collider fAcility (NICA) at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR). It is designed to investigate strongly interacting matter at high net-baryon densities through systematic measurements of heavy-ion collisions at center-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 4-11~\mathrm{GeV}$ in collider mode. Its broad physics program aims to map the high-density region of the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) phase diagram, probe the onset of deconfinement, and search for signatures of a possible QCD critical point.
This report presents the current status of the MPD experiment and selected results from feasibility studies based on simulated $\mathrm{Bi+Bi}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 9.2~\mathrm{GeV}$. These results illustrate the anticipated detector performance and demonstrate MPD's capability to measure key observables sensitive to the properties and evolution of strongly interacting matter.
