Description

We construct a relativistic kinetic theory for spin-1/2 particle with zero magnetic moment within constrained Hamiltonian formalism. By imposing constraints on an enlarged canonical phase space, the chiral kinetic theory can be consistently reconstructed within this framework. For massive spin-1/2 particles, we introduce a two-dimensional spin phase space, leading to an eight-dimensional phase-space distribution function. The corresponding kinetic equation, together with the generalized Liouville theorem in non-trivial phase space are also derived. In the presence of electromagnetic field, the conversion among orbital angular momentum, spin angular momentum and angular momentum carried by electromagnetic field emerge naturally within this formalism. At global equilibrium, all conditions previously obtained in Winger formalism are reproduced.
By using the same framework to spinning particle with arbitrary magnetic moment, a consistent collisionless kinetic theory can be constructed. Compared with Winger formalism, there exist no approximation in this classical construction. The related classical spin phase space are also discussed in the Hamiltonian formalism. At global equilibrium, the spin potential has a elegant relation with thermal vorticity and background field in zero magnetic moment case.
