Description

The Electron–Ion Collider (EIC), planned to be constructed at Brookhaven National Laboratory in the United States, aims to explore the strong interaction and the internal structure of nucleons. The Zero Degree Calorimeter (ZDC), which is one of the detector components at the ePIC experiment at the EIC, plays an essential role in several EIC physics programs, including the distinction between coherent and incoherent scattering processes, collision geometry measurements, spectator tagging, and spectroscopy studies. In particular, the Sullivan process in electron-proton collisions can be investigated through the measurement of Λ baryons in the ZDC.

In this presentation, we will present the results from a simulation study of Λ reconstruction for the new ZDC configurations with silicon pixel detectors. The reconstruction workflow consists of generating Λ events, clustering the detected decay products of Λ using the Imaging Topological Clustering Algorithm, and reconstructing the tracks of decay products using the Least Squares Method. Then the distribution of reconstructed invariant mass is used to extract the yield of Λ. This study provides a foundation for Λ-baryon reconstruction and contributes to the optimization of future ZDC design.
